New London man arrested with loaded firearm during shooting investigation

NEW LONDON — A man was arrested early Saturday morning for possession of a loaded firearm during a police investigation into a shooting in New London.

At approximately 4:14 a.m., New London Police officers conducting an investigation in the municipal parking lot near Golden St. and Eugene O’Neill Dr. made an investigatory stop of a male seated in a vehicle at the intersection of Golden St. and Green St. The individual, identified as Maurice Milligan, was found to be carrying a loaded firearm in his waistband as he exited his vehicle.

Milligan, a resident of Taftville, does not have a valid pistol permit and is a convicted felon.

He was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of ammunition, weapon in a motor vehicle, and illegal carrying of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The police stated that Milligan’s arrest seems unrelated to the ongoing shooting investigation.

Both cases remain actively under investigation.
