Rhode Island police seek information on hit-and-run injuring firefighters

COVENTRY, RI — The Coventry Rhode Island Police Department is appealing to the public for information following a hit-and-run accident that injured firefighters and damaged a fire engine on May 29.

At approximately 9:15 p.m., members of the Western Coventry Fire Department were responding to a medical emergency in the 1900 block of Victory Highway when a vehicle struck the fire engine as firefighters were exiting.

The vehicle, which inflicted injuries on the firefighters and damage to the vehicle, fled the scene heading north on Victory Highway.

Investigators from the Coventry Police Department’s Detective Division and Accident Reconstruction Unit are currently investigating the incident and have requested assistance from anyone who may have relevant information or tips.

The vehicle involved is described as a Chrysler minivan, model year between 2019 and 2023, with noticeable damage to the front passenger side, including the passenger side view mirror.
