Orrington man faces charges in hammer attack in Brewer

BREWER — An Orrington man was arrested early Thursday morning following a violent altercation on South Main Street where a victim was seriously injured, police said.

According to the Brewer Police Department, officers responded to a reported assault around 11 p.m. on June 5.

They discovered a victim with severe head wounds, who was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Investigators identified the suspect as 29-year-old Nicholas Ireland of Orrington.

The incident began when Ireland allegedly blocked the road with his vehicle, confronted the victim armed with a hammer and a firearm, and assaulted the victim, striking him multiple times with the hammer.

After the attack, Ireland is accused of fleeing the scene with the victim’s belongings.

Brewer Police coordinated with Bangor Police Department, which located and detained Ireland.

Ireland faces charges of Elevated Aggravated Assault, Criminal Threatening, and Robbery.

The authorities believe that Ireland knew the victim, indicating the attack was targeted.

The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be disclosed as they become available.
