GARDNER — Gardner Police Department is reporting a spike in the theft of delivered packages from residents’ doorsteps, with suspects frequently targeting expensive items like cell phones.

According to police, the thefts have been carried out by individuals posing as delivery personnel, donning “Amazon” vests.

These suspects allegedly approach homes with a box in hand, which they use to replace the packages that were originally delivered, often within minutes of delivery.

The police are cautioning the public to remain vigilant and to observe any unusual activity.

Residents are encouraged to note any identifying details of suspicious persons or vehicles, such as license plate numbers and vehicle make or model, when it is safe to do so.

Gardner Police Department urges anyone who witnesses similar suspicious behavior to contact them immediately to help combat the rising trend of package thefts in the community.
