CLINTON — Fire crews from the Clinton Fire Department rapidly contained a fire at an apartment complex Tuesday night after responding to emergency calls around 10:44 p.m.

Upon arrival at the 309 Church Street location, Engine 6 and Ladder 1 encountered smoke billowing from the second floor and immediately declared a working fire, summoning additional firefighters and equipment.

The swift response of Engine 6’s team ensured the fire was quickly extinguished.

The incident escalated to a second alarm, prompting fire personnel to evacuate building residents, with a particular focus on the seniors living within the complex.

In the course of the evacuation, three individuals were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment of smoke inhalation.

Investigation efforts are currently underway by the State Fire Marshal’s Office and the District 8 Fire Investigation Unit to determine the cause of the fire.

The department expressed gratitude towards the mutual aid partners who provided support during the incident.
