Claremont firefighters extinguish suspicious brush fire, investigation underway

CLAREMONT — Claremont Fire Department personnel swiftly extinguished a small brush fire Tuesday afternoon that officials are calling suspicious.

The fire department was dispatched at 4:30 p.m. to the intersection of Maynard Street and Spring Street after reports of smoke in the area.

Brush 1 arrived on scene four minutes later and located the brush fire burning up a hill.

Crews quickly brought the fire under control by 4:37 p.m. No injuries were reported.

The Claremont Fire and Police Departments, with aid from the New Hampshire Division of Forests and Lands, are conducting an investigation into the cause of the fire.
