NAPLES — A serious collision between a motorcycle and a sedan occurred at the intersection of Roosevelt Trail and Kansas Road on June 1, leaving one individual with potentially life-threatening injuries.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office reported that the crash happened at approximately 12:54 p.m. when Austin Costa, 18, of Naples, driving a 2003 Volkswagen Passat, made a left turn onto Roosevelt Trail from Kansas Road.

At this moment, Daniel Faubert, 29, of Saco, riding a 2007 Kawasaki EX250F motorcycle, was traveling westbound and collided with the driver’s side of Costa’s vehicle.

Emergency services responded to multiple 911 calls reporting the accident and the serious injuries involved.

Faubert, who was wearing a helmet, was transported by the Naples Fire Department to a LifeFlight helicopter and then flown to Maine Medical Center.

Costa and his juvenile passenger did not sustain injuries in the crash.

Costa received a traffic summons at the scene for failing to yield the right-of-way.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is considering driver inattention as a contributing factor in the incident.

Assistance at the scene was provided by the Naples Fire Department, Bridgton Fire Department, Bridgton Police Department, and LifeFlight of Maine.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is using this incident to remind drivers of the importance of being alert for motorcycles on the road and the dangers of driving while distracted.
