Car explosion in Holden injures one, prompts investigation

HOLDEN — A car explosion Saturday morning on Brattle Street resulted in injuries to a 55-year-old man and an ongoing investigation by local and state authorities.

At around 9:15 a.m., the Wachusett Regional Emergency Communications Center received an emergency call reporting the explosion at 216 Brattle St.

Holden Police and Fire Department personnel responded quickly to the scene.

The injured man, who has not been identified, was taken by ambulance to UMASS Medical Center for treatment.

Details about his condition have not been released.

A preliminary investigation suggests the explosion could have been triggered by a leaking acetylene tank.

The incident is believed to be isolated, with no immediate threat to the community.

The Massachusetts State Police Fire Marshal’s Office is collaborating with Holden Police and Fire Departments to determine the exact cause of the explosion.
