Hit-and-run in Sandgate under investigation

SANDGATE — Vermont State Police are investigating a hit-and-run accident that occurred on Sandgate Road near Tudor Road that left a mailbox damaged and residents seeking answers.

The incident was reported on May 30 at approximately 12:46 p.m., but authorities believe the crash happened the previous day between 5 p.m. and 6:45 p.m.

The victims, identified as William Mayer, 77, and Patricia Mayer, 73, both residents of Sandgate, discovered the damage to their property.

Evidence collected at the scene included vehicle parts which have been identified as belonging to a 2011-2013 Buick Regal.

No suspect has been developed thus far.

The Vermont State Police are asking for the public’s help in the case and encourage anyone with information to reach out.
