Somerville police investigate series of assaults, thefts, and shooting incident

SOMERVILLE — Somerville Police Department is responding to a series of crimes including assaults, thefts, and a shooting incident over the past week.

On May 22 at approximately 4:57 p.m., officers were called to Great River Rd where they met with a woman who claimed to have been spat at during an argument with a male party.

Police identified the suspect involved in the altercation.

The day before, May 21 at around 1:56 p.m., police responded to reports of a break-in at a construction site on Mystic Ave.

A victim reported that valuable construction materials had been stolen from the location over the weekend.

Another assault was reported on May 26, just before 7 p.m. at Assembly Row.

Officers were informed that two teenagers on bicycles had accosted the reporting party and one of the teens had hit the party’s son with his bike.

On May 27, police were dispatched to Sycamore St at approximately 1:13 p.m. after receiving reports of a breaking and entering at a residence.

The homeowner stated that several tools were stolen from his basement.

Later that same day, at 2 p.m., officers were called to a residence on Gilman St following reports of shots fired.

A witness observed an altercation outside his house where a male discharged a firearm.

The bullet hit a bedroom window after ricocheting off the pavement.

Thankfully, there were no injuries.

Police later arrested the suspect and confiscated a loaded handgun from his residence.

In addition to these incidents, the Somerville Police Department reported one package theft, three motor vehicle vandalisms, three bicycle thefts, one vandalism, one car break-in, and one motor vehicle theft within the same timeframe.

The authorities are investigating all incidents and urge anyone with information to come forward.
