Harvard police confirm drowning death at Bare Hill Pond

HARVARD — At approximately 12:28 a.m. on May 30, the Nashoba Regional Dispatch received a 911 call about a possible drowning at Bare Hill Pond near Barba’s point.

The Harvard Police Department, along with the Harvard Fire and EMS, responded quickly to the scene.

They accessed the area through a trail behind the Bromfield School that leads to the secluded point.

The District 8 Mutual Aid Dive Team, which includes various local fire departments and rescue units, promptly began a search operation.

The Lunenburg FD, Sterling FD, Rutland FD, Barre FD, Leominster FD, Fitchburg FD, and West Boylston FD all played a significant role, sending boats to scour the waters of Bare Hill Pond.

The Harvard Public Safety Drone Team also provided aerial support to improve search efforts.

By 2:09 a.m., divers found the missing swimmer, and, unfortunately, recovered the body.

The Harvard Police Department expressed gratitude for the swift action and support from the Boxborough Police, the State Police, and all fire departments and rescue teams involved.

Authorities extended their deepest condolences to the family and friends of the person who died.

They also reminded the public to be cautious and follow safety protocols when participating in water-related activities.

The Harvard Police Department will continue to investigate the incident and will release more information as it becomes available.
