BRAINTREE — A 26-year-old Chilmark man was arrested and charged with multiple counts of assault following a violent attack on four juvenile females at an AMC movie theater last year, authorities said Wednesday.

Jared C. Ravizza faces four counts each of assault to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon stemming from the May 25 incident on Grandview Avenue, according to Deputy Chief Robert Joseph of the Braintree Police Department.

The arrest warrant was issued by Quincy District Court.

Ravizza is already in custody for similar charges in Plymouth County.

The attack at the theater was described as “completely senseless and random” by the police, targeting “entirely defenseless, innocent children.”

The police praised the young victims for their bravery during and after the assault, noting that they are on paths to recovery and have the department’s full support.

The department also thanked the community for their patience during the ongoing investigation and expressed gratitude for the collaboration with Braintree Fire Department, Brewster Ambulance, Plymouth Police, and the Massachusetts State Police.

Chief Mark Cohoon commended the responding Braintree officers and detectives for their swift actions on the day of the incident, which he said were crucial in providing immediate comfort to the victims and in leading to the quick identification and location of Ravizza’s vehicle.

The date for Ravizza’s arraignment at Quincy District Court has yet to be announced.
