MARLBORO — A single-vehicle crash on Vermont Route 9 near MacArthur Rd resulted in minor injuries and a DUI citation for the driver, officials said Monday.

Vermont State Police responded to the scene at around 3:02 p.m. to find a 2013 Hyundai Sonata totaled.

The driver, Shawn Hellyar, 28, from Windsor Locks, Connecticut, and his passenger, Nikko Udas, 31, whose residence is unknown, both sustained minor injuries.

Authorities reported sunny weather and dry road conditions at the time of the accident.

Despite the favorable driving conditions, troopers observed signs of impairment in Hellyar, who was not wearing a seatbelt.

After an investigation, Hellyar was criminally cited for suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) and negligent operation of a vehicle.

Both Hellyar and Udas were transported to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Following the incident, Hellyar received a Vermont Civil Violation Complaint.

The Vermont State Police are continuing to investigate the crash.

Further details will be released as the investigation progresses.
