Duxbury man arrested for assault near Fairlee Town Beach

FAIRLEE — A Duxbury man was arrested for alleged assault and disorderly conduct at a beachside gathering on May 26.

Vermont State Police responded to reports of an assault near the Fairlee Town Beach.

Assisted by Bradford Police Department, troopers interviewed multiple witnesses which led to the identification of 38-year-old Jeffrey Butterfield as the suspect.

According to authorities, Butterfield engaged in threatening behavior and physically assaulted two individuals, Jacob Pomer and Charles Carrier.

The circumstances surrounding the confrontation were not immediately clear.

Following the incident, Butterfield was taken into custody without further incident and has been detained at the Northeast Regional Correctional Facility.

He faces charges of simple assault and disorderly conduct.

Investigations into the altercation are ongoing.
