BRAINTREE — A man attacked and stabbed four young females at AMC Braintree 10 on Grandview Avenue around 6 p.m. Thursday, in what appeared to be an unprovoked assault, authorities said.

The assailant, bypassing the ticket counter, entered a theater and without a word began stabbing the girls, ranging from 9 to 17 years old, before fleeing the scene.

Braintree Police, along with fire and paramedic services, responded to treat the victims, who all sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Boston hospitals.

Braintree Police Patrol Officers and Detectives swiftly reviewed surveillance footage to track the suspect’s escape in a black SUV and broadcasted the information to law enforcement agencies.

Following the attack, a vehicle with a matching description was reported to be involved in a similar assault in Plymouth.

Massachusetts State Police pursued the suspect, culminating in a crash in Sandwich where the driver was apprehended.

Preliminary evidence suggests the incidents are connected.

The investigation is ongoing and further details will be released as they become available. ###
