BOSTON — Boston Police Department’s B-3 Drug Control Unit officers arrested a suspect with a loaded firearm amid a drug probe on Thursday.

At about 1:30 p.m., officers from the Mattapan-based unit took Ruben Charles, 33, of Hyde Park, into custody on firearm charges during an ongoing drug investigation near River Street and Edgewater Drive.

The police were on the lookout for Charles, who had two active arrest warrants and was suspected of being armed.

After observing Charles and an unidentified woman entering a vehicle, officers followed but lost sight of the car on River Street.

They then continued the search on foot.

Charles and the woman were eventually located at 1281 River Street.

During the arrest, officers found a Bersa Thunder handgun in Charles’s waistband, which was loaded with one round in the chamber and four rounds in the magazine.

Charles faces charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The arrest warrant was also executed for a daytime breaking and entering offense.

He is set to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
