SPRINGFIELD — Police arrested a local man early Tuesday morning after discovering an active in-state warrant during a routine traffic stop on Interstate 91 South.

Springfield Police Department reported that Ofc. Freeman, assisted by Cpl. Perkins, Ofc. Guzzo, and Ofc. Hauser, pulled over a vehicle for speeding at approximately 12:51 a.m.

Brandon Sheltra, a passenger in the vehicle, was found to have an outstanding warrant.

Sheltra was taken into custody without incident and issued a criminal citation to appear in Windsor County Criminal Court later that day.

He faces charges related to the warrant.

Following the arrest, Sheltra was lodged at the Southern State Correctional Facility pending bail.

Officials noted that police do not determine bail or incarceration decisions, which fall under the jurisdiction of the judicial system.
