Driver arrested for DUI drugs on I-91 in Putney

PUTNEY — A New Hampshire man was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs after being found asleep at the wheel on Interstate 91, Vermont State Police reported.

At approximately 11:51 a.m. on May 6, a trooper from the Westminster Barracks stopped to check on a motorist who was asleep over the wheel in the breakdown lane near mile marker 23.

The operator, identified as Lee Bates, 39, of Acworth, New Hampshire, exhibited multiple signs of impairment, according to authorities.

The trooper conducted Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, and Bates was subsequently arrested on suspicion of DUI drugs.

He was taken to the Westminster Barracks for processing.

Bates was released with a criminal citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Windham Criminal Division, on June 25 at 8:30 a.m. to respond to the charge.
