Somerville police report surge in assaults, robberies, and break-ins

SOMERVILLE — Police in Somerville have been responding to a spate of violent crimes and property-related incidents over the past week, including assaults, robberies, and break-ins.

On May 15 at about 2:13 p.m., officers were called to Middlesex Ave for a reported fight.

Victims told police they were assaulted by two men following a sale of speakers.

One suspect brandished a knife, while the other hit a victim with a golf club.

Both suspects were identified by the police.

Three days later, on May 18 around 11:25 a.m., authorities responded to a Kent Ct residence where an unwanted individual had forced entry.

Police found a man inside the home and arrested him.

Early on May 21, at approximately 12:28 a.m., officers were dispatched to 84 Broadway for a check condition.

A male reported that earlier in Foss Park, he was robbed by four men wielding knives who stole his speaker.

On May 20 at 9:35 a.m., Somerville Police investigated a past breaking and entering incident on Prospect St. Two victims reported a stolen bicycle and tire from their garage.

Another assault was reported on May 17 at about 9:39 p.m. at the intersection of Washington St & Boston St. The victim stated that a man kicked his vehicle and then brandished a knife and lunged at him when confronted.

The suspect was identified by officers.

A residential break-in was reported on May 19 at around 2:07 a.m. on Sunset Rd.

Homeowners, returning from a trip, found their residence had been entered, with multiple items missing and belongings displaced.

Additionally, police have noted other criminal activities, including four acts of vandalism, two motor vehicle vandalisms, two bicycle thefts, two package thefts, and five car break-ins.

The Somerville Police Department is actively investigating all incidents and urges anyone with information to come forward to assist in the apprehension and prosecution of those responsible.
