Scituate barracks trooper arrests fugitive on multiple charges

SCITUATE — A Rhode Island man was apprehended late Friday night by state troopers on a series of charges, including being a fugitive from justice and drug possession.

At 11:39 p.m., troopers arrested Eric Gipe, 40, of North Providence, at the Scituate Barracks.

Gipe was wanted for failure to appear in court on original charges stemming from the Merrimack County Sheriff’s Department in New Hampshire.

These charges included violations of the Controlled Drug Act, disobeying an officer, operating with an expired license, and additional drug-related offenses.

In addition to being a fugitive, Gipe now faces a new charge for possession of a Schedule I to V controlled substance.

Details regarding the specific substances involved in the arrest have not been released.

Gipe is currently being held as he awaits further legal proceedings.
