Teen escapes injury in fiery Charlton crash, seat belt credited

CHARLTON — Just after 11 a.m. Monday, Charlton Police Department officers and Charlton Fire Department personnel rushed to the scene of a motor vehicle crash on Berry Corner Road.

According to authorities, the vehicle veered off the right side of the road and collided with a tree, resulting in heavy front-end damage.

Moments after the crash, the vehicle was engulfed in flames.

The driver, a minor whose name has not been released, was the sole occupant of the car.

Officials reported that he managed to exit the vehicle swiftly and was unharmed.

The timely use of a seat belt is believed to have played a significant role in his ability to walk away from the potentially fatal incident.
