STRAFFORD — Early morning disturbances on May 18 led to the temporary escape and subsequent detention of a juvenile involved in various incidents in the Strafford area.

Vermont State Police Troopers from the Royalton Barracks responded at about 4:53 a.m. to reports of an individual searching through unlocked vehicles near Coburns’ General Store.

The ensuing investigation identified a local juvenile who was under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

After being taken to Gifford Medical Hospital in Randolph for treatment, the individual fled the facility.

A few hours later, the same juvenile was apprehended creating further disturbances near the Sharon Trading Post.

The juvenile has since been processed through the court system and, under an Emergency Care Order for juveniles (CHINS), has been placed in a specialized care facility.

Authorities continue to investigate related thefts and property damage in Strafford, Norwich, and Sharon.
