Dump truck overturns in Hermon, driver critically injured

HERMON — A dump truck was involved in a traffic crash on Newburgh Road in Hermon at 9:50 a.m. on May 17, resulting in critical injuries to the driver and prompting a response from multiple agencies.

Penobscot County Regional Communications received a report of the accident, which led members of the Hermon Fire Department and Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office to the scene.

They discovered a loaded dump truck tipped onto its side.

The male operator of the vehicle was immediately transported to Northern Light Hospital with critical injuries.

The Department of Environmental Protection was called to the crash site to manage spilled fuel.

Additionally, the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division and Accident Reconstruction Team were dispatched to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.

The Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Division also evaluated the scene and vehicle involved.

No cause for the accident has been determined yet.

The investigation remains active as authorities work to ascertain the events that led to the crash.
