West Springfield police seek help identifying theft suspect

WEST SPRINGFIELD — The West Springfield Police Department is seeking assistance from the public in identifying a suspect involved in the theft of an elderly woman’s purse on May 8.

The male suspect, who can be seen smiling in one of the surveillance photos released by the police, is accused of posing as the victim’s son to obtain her wallet.

According to officials, the victim stated that her son had passed away years ago, making the suspect’s claims fraudulent.

The incident took place on Memorial Avenue.

The suspect is described as a bald male, wearing a black and red shirt, grey sweatpants, and white shoes.

Detective Cheyenne Azadan is handling the investigation and urges anyone with information to come forward.
