Bridgeport officer involved in shooting, suspect in stable condition

BRIDGEPORT — A Bridgeport police officer was involved in a shooting on May 16 after responding to a call about a man brandishing a knife on the 200 block of Birdseye Street.

The incident occurred when officers arrived and located the suspect in the roadway.

During the encounter, the officer discharged their weapon, injuring the suspect.

The individual was then transported to Saint Vincent’s Hospital and is reportedly in stable condition.

In accordance with the Connecticut Police Accountability Act, the Office of Inspector General, the Connecticut State Police Western District Major Crime Squad, and the Office of the State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of Bridgeport are conducting a thorough investigation into the shooting.

Bridgeport Police Chief Roderick Porter Sr. expressed his confidence in the Office of the Inspector General to conduct a comprehensive, transparent, and impartial investigation.

The involved officer(s) has been reassigned to modified duty out of the Chief’s Office pending the outcome of the inquiry, as per department protocol.
