Newport woman charged with retail theft, providing false information to police

DERBY — A Newport City woman faces charges of retail theft and providing false information to law enforcement following an incident at a local supermarket.

Vermont State Police responded to a call at approximately 5:30 p.m. on April 21 at the Price Chopper on 56 Commons Drive after receiving reports that a man and a woman had stolen merchandise valued at $128.04.

Upon investigation, police identified Alysia Barbera, 30, of Newport City, as the female suspect involved in the theft.

Troopers located Barbera and during questioning, she allegedly gave a false name and provided misleading information about the male suspect.

Barbera has been issued a criminal citation to appear in Orleans County Superior Court to face the charges.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify the male suspect.
