NCUHS experience mixed results in weekend sports competitions

NEWPORT — North County Union High School teams faced a series of challenges over the weekend in baseball, softball, and track and field competitions, with a mix of wins and losses across the board.

In baseball, the varsity team suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat against Montpelier at home on Saturday. Joe LeBlanc hit 1-for-2 with a double and Logan Cross went 2-for-3. The team is scheduled to host Oxbow on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, the JV team clinched a victory, outscoring Montpelier 9-7, led by Trevor Sanville who was 3-for-4 with a double. They will travel to face Oxbow on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

Softball saw the varsity team fall 8-1 at MVU, despite Ally Lapierre managing 1-2 with an RBI. They are set to host Oxbow on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

The JV team also faced a setback, losing 7-5 to MVU. Key performances included Grace Lombardi, who went 2-for-4 with a double. The JV team will also head to Oxbow, playing on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

Track and field athletes from NCUHS participated in the 51st Annual Burlington Invitational Track Meet at Burlington High School. Notable performances included Sabine Brueck, who won both the 100m hurdles in 15.63 seconds and the 300m hurdles in 45.62 seconds, setting a new meet record, and also secured second places in the long jump and triple jump events.

The track and field team’s next meet is scheduled for Tuesday in Lyndon at 3:30 p.m.
