Westport police seek help identifying driver in hit-and-run involving child

WESTPORT — The Westport Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a driver involved in a hit-and-run that injured a 12-year-old child on Tuesday.

At around 2:15 p.m., a green Kia Soul struck the child who was riding a bicycle at the intersection of Gifford and Old County Road.

The impact caused the child to fall and sustain scrapes on the knees and elbow.

According to witnesses, an unidentified female driver exited the vehicle, inquired about the child’s well-being, and then left the scene before authorities arrived.

Officer Douglas Wenson of the Westport Police Department is leading the investigation and urges anyone with information about the driver’s identity to come forward.
