CENTERVILLE — A 62-year-old man was critically injured and airlifted to a Rhode Island hospital following a stabbing incident at a home on Old Stage Road on Tuesday, police said.
The Barnstable Police Department said they received calls about the stabbing at around 3:50 p.m.
The 24-year-old male suspect, who is acquainted with the victim, was apprehended at the scene and taken into custody without incident.
Authorities are treating the stabbing as a targeted attack and not a random act of violence.
Both the Barnstable Police and the Massachusetts State Police Cape & Islands Detective Unit are investigating the case.
The suspect is being held without bail and faces multiple charges, including armed assault to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a person over 60.
His arraignment is set for Wednesday at the Barnstable District Court.
Police have not yet identified the suspect.
