FORT KENT — The Fort Kent Police Department has confirmed that the situation prompting school closures and delays this morning has been resolved, and classes at MSAD 27 will resume at 10 a.m.

The precautionary measures were taken after an incident involving the discharge of a firearm near Pleasant Street, close to the area’s three schools.

Although the event appears to be an isolated incident, law enforcement officials requested that the University of Maine at Fort Kent and MSAD 27 either cancel or delay school activities for the day to ensure the safety of students and faculty.

Authorities have stated there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The police department extended gratitude to the community for its cooperation during the incident and the ongoing investigation.

Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
