Two juveniles found safe after going missing from Brookfield school

BROOKFIELD — Two juveniles reported missing from a local school were found safe Monday afternoon, Vermont State Police said.

The incident began when the children were discovered missing during a headcount at the end of recess at Brookfield School, located at 1728 Ridge Road.

State Police were notified at 12:23 p.m.

According to authorities, recess at the school started at 11:15 a.m., and by 11:50 a.m., the juveniles were nowhere to be found on school premises.

An immediate search was launched by Vermont State Police, VT Fish and Game, and Randolph Police, with no initial success in locating the children.

The search effort quickly expanded to include Local Rescue Squads, Local Fire Departments, and Brookfield residents, who scoured the roads and areas surrounding the school.

Relief came at 2:53 p.m. when a resident spotted the juveniles walking on North Randolph Road.

Shortly after, at 3:07 p.m., State Police located the two along a stream on the same road.

The juveniles were reported to be in good health and were subsequently returned to their families.
