TROY — A single-vehicle crash claimed the life of a local man over the weekend in Troy.

State Troopers from the Troop C barracks in Keene responded to a report of a crash on New Hampshire Route 12 near Lawrence Road shortly before midnight on Saturday, May 4.

Upon their arrival, they discovered a car that had veered off the roadway and collided with a large boulder, causing it to overturn.

Emergency personnel from the Keene Fire Department and Troy Ambulance attempted life-saving measures on the driver, identified as 54-year-old Stephen Despinosa of Troy.

Despite their efforts, Despinosa was pronounced dead at the scene.

No passengers were in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

Preliminary investigations suggest that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, but state police are continuing to investigate all possible causes.

The Troy Fire Department, Keene Fire Department, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner provided assistance on the scene.

Authorities are seeking additional information from the public regarding the incident.
