Dartmouth shoplifting incident leads to drug bust at local inn

DARTMOUTH — Dartmouth Police apprehended a woman with an active warrant on May 4, after responding to a shoplifting report at a local Walmart at 10:30 a.m.

Ashley Vertentes, 32, of New Bedford, was later arrested at the Dartmouth Motor Inn, where detectives found drugs and paraphernalia.

Upon arresting Vertentes for the warrant and shoplifting, detectives from the Community Impact Unit noticed items including packaging materials and digital scales in her room.

A search warrant procured later revealed approximately 10 grams of suspected fentanyl, 12 grams of suspected crack cocaine, 4 grams of powder cocaine, various pills, and additional drug packaging materials.

Vertentes now faces multiple charges, including possession with intent to distribute Class A, B, and E substances, as well as conspiracy to violate drug law.

The investigation also led to the arrest of Lance Alford, 54, of Randolph.

Alford is charged with similar drug offenses, including subsequent offense charges for possession with intent to distribute Class A and B substances.

Both are currently awaiting legal proceedings for their charges.
