Providence woman arrested on counterfeit charges, held as violator

NORTH KINGSTOWN — A Providence woman was arrested Saturday morning on charges of passing counterfeit currency and obtaining property by false pretenses, following a cooperative investigation by the state police and Providence Police Department.

At 10 a.m., troopers took 26-year-old Malkyraah Cornwell of 427 Pine Street, Providence, into custody without incident.

The arrest stemmed from an investigation that led authorities to Cornwell, who was charged with two counts of passing counterfeit bills or notes and one count of obtaining property under false pretenses.

Cornwell was transported to the State Police Wickford Barracks where she was processed.

She was arraigned by a Justice of the Peace and subsequently turned over to the Adult Correctional Institute-Women’s Intake.

There, she will be held as a bail and probation violator, pending further legal proceedings.

The case will continue to be investigated, and further details will be released as they become available.
