Troopers apprehend Massachusetts fugitive, seize controlled substances in Warwick

WARWICK — Two individuals were arrested by state troopers in separate incidents on Monday afternoon, one of whom is a fugitive from justice from Massachusetts, authorities said.

At 2:45 p.m., troopers conducted a motor vehicle stop on Airport Road, leading to the arrest of Amanda Shippee, 38, of Attleboro, Massachusetts.

She was charged with being a fugitive from justice and was wanted on an affidavit and arrest warrant issued by the Attleboro Police Department for assault charges.

Shippee was taken to Wickford Barracks for processing.

Afterward, she was transferred to the Women’s Intake Center as a fugitive from justice.

In a coincidental but unrelated arrest at the same time, authorities took Joseph Lavoie, 42, of North Providence, into custody.

Lavoie faces charges for possession of a Schedule I-V controlled substance.

Details regarding the substances found or the circumstances of his arrest have not been released.

Both individuals are expected to face their respective charges in court.
