Driver cited for stolen vehicle plates at Derby Line port of entry

DERBY LINE — A New York man was cited for possession of stolen property after U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents discovered stolen vehicle plates during a routine check at the I-91 Port of Entry on May 2.

State Police were notified around noon that agents at the border crossing had encountered a vehicle with stolen plates.

The driver, identified as Robert Hamilton, 58, of Kings Park, NY, was found to have knowingly attached the stolen plates to his vehicle.

Following the investigation, Hamilton was issued a citation to appear in court to face charges related to the possession of stolen property.

Authorities have not released further details regarding the origin of the stolen plates or any additional charges that may be pending in the case.

Hamilton is expected to appear in court at a later date to respond to the citation.
