Burlington man arrested for DUI, wrong-way driving on Interstate 89

WATERBURY — A Burlington man was taken into custody late Thursday night after driving the wrong way on Interstate 89 and being suspected of DUI.

Vermont State Police received reports of a driver heading south in the northbound lanes of Interstate 89 near mile marker 61.8 around 10:45 p.m.

Troopers, with the help of the Montpelier Police Department and Vermont DMV Enforcement, located and stopped the blue Volkswagen Jetta at mile marker 47.

The driver, identified as 28-year-old Carter Maxfield of Burlington, was believed to be under the influence of intoxicants.

Maxfield was arrested and charged with DUI and Gross Negligent Operation.

Following his arrest, Maxfield was processed at the Berlin Barracks and released with a citation to appear in Washington Superior Court, Criminal Division, for the charges.
