NORTH HAVEN — A North Haven officer, working under an ARPA-funded initiative to target auto theft and violence, apprehended a Hartford man early this morning after a brief foot chase behind the Best Western Hotel.

At approximately 3:42 a.m., the officer located a suspicious vehicle and made contact with the subject, later identified as 25-year-old Jeremy Cruz-Velez.

When Cruz-Velez fled on foot into a nearby wooded area, the officer gave chase and was able to subdue him after a short pursuit.

A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 155 wax folds of suspected heroin, multiple scales, and other narcotic paraphernalia.

Cruz-Velez now faces charges including Possession of Narcotics with Intent to Sell, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Interfering/Resisting Arrest.

He is currently held on a $100,000 bond.
