CHARLESTON — A Newport man was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence after being stopped for speeding on VT RT 105, authorities said Wednesday.

Dalton Cote, 27, was stopped by troopers around 7:17 p.m. Monday for traveling at 68 mph in a 50 mph zone.

During the stop, troopers conducted an investigation which led them to believe Cote was operating the vehicle under the influence of intoxicants.

Cote was processed at the Derby Barracks following his arrest.

He was also charged with violating his parole and was later transported to Northern State Correctional Facility.

The incident is still under investigation, and further details have not been released.
