BOSTON — Boston police officers have arrested a 62-year-old Mattapan man on larceny charges after he was caught stealing packages from a residence on Wednesday afternoon.

At about 4:56 p.m., officers assigned to the Anti-Crime Unit of District B-3 were patrolling River Street in response to a recent increase in package thefts.

They observed Robin Allen ascend the front steps of 108 River Street and quickly take two packages before attempting to leave the scene.

Upon spotting the police, Allen ceased movement.

Officers approached and handcuffed him without incident.

An investigation confirmed that Allen did not reside at the address and had no authorization to take the packages.

The items were subsequently returned to their rightful owner.

Allen faces charges of larceny from a building and trespassing.

He was arraigned in Dorchester District Court following his arrest.
