WILTON — Residents and non-residents of Wilton are being targeted by phone scammers claiming to seek donations for the local police department, authorities said Tuesday.

The Wilton Police Department has received multiple reports of unsolicited calls asking for bank account information under the guise of raising funds for the department.

Officials emphasized that the department does not solicit donations by phone and would never ask for bank account details.

Authorities remind the public to be vigilant against phone scams and to protect their personal and financial information.

Residents are advised never to provide sensitive information over the phone without proper verification of the caller’s identity.
