NEW BEDFORD — Three adults were arrested and an illegal firearm was seized following a disturbance in the city’s north-end neighborhood, according to the New Bedford Police Department.

On April 22, around 6:30 p.m., officers responded to reports of a group causing a disturbance at 189 Deane Street.

Officer George Coto arrived at the scene and noticed one individual wearing a black ski mask.

As Coto approached to investigate, three individuals began to walk away.

During the encounter, Coto observed 18-year-old Jason Anthony Johnson-Rivera hand what appeared to be a firearm to 22-year-old David Luna.

Luna concealed the item in his waistband and fled the scene, dropping the weapon, a 9mm handgun loaded with 19 rounds in a high-capacity magazine, during the chase.

Officer Nathaniel Goncalo provided backup, and both Luna and Johnson-Rivera were apprehended.

They face charges for carrying a loaded firearm with a high-capacity feeding device without a license.

Additionally, 21-year-old Alanah Martinez was arrested for intimidation of a witness, possessing an open container of alcohol, and resisting arrest after not cooperating with officers at the scene.
