CRANSTON — A fatal motorcycle crash on Wellington Avenue claimed the life of a Providence man last evening, according to the Cranston Police Department.

At about 6:10 p.m., police responded to a call concerning a motorcycle accident near 372 Wellington Avenue.

The operator of the motorcycle, Alexander Pena, 39, was found fatally injured between a guardrail and a chain-link fence along Route 95 northbound.

Pena was riding a 2011 Suzuki GSXR 750 southbound from Providence with a friend, also on a motorcycle, when he lost control at a high rate of speed and struck the curb.

The accident occurred near a slight bend in the road, resulting in Pena being ejected from his motorcycle and landing between the guardrail and fence.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by Cranston rescue personnel.

Pena was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Cranston Police extended their heartfelt condolences to the Pena family during this challenging time.

In light of the incident, authorities remind motorcyclists to exercise extreme caution, use proper safety equipment, and adhere to traffic laws to prevent injuries, especially as the spring and summer months approach.
