New Haven police seek witnesses in fatal hit-and-run

NEW HAVEN — A 70-year-old man was struck and killed by a vehicle in a hit-and-run accident late Friday night, police said.

Yusuf Suat Gursey was hit at the intersection of Whalley Avenue and Brownell Street at approximately 9:26 p.m. Emergency responders found Gursey in the roadway with severe injuries.

He was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The vehicle involved in the crash fled the scene but was later found by authorities.

The New Haven Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Team is investigating the incident and processing the vehicle for evidence.

Police are urging anyone with information about the crash or anyone who may have witnessed the event to come forward.
