MERIDEN — A West Haven man was arrested on multiple charges after a joint investigation by the Meriden Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) focused on protecting children from sexual predators.

Kedar Lewis, 31, was taken into custody after he allegedly attempted to meet with someone he believed to be a 15-year-old girl.

The operation stemmed from collaborative efforts during March and April to enhance the safety of the community’s youth.

According to authorities, Lewis engaged in conversations with an individual he thought was a juvenile female and traveled to Meriden with the intent to engage in sexual activities.

The person Lewis was communicating with was, in fact, an undercover agent.

The charges against Lewis include Criminal Attempt at Risk of Injury – Sexual Contact Victim Under 16, Criminal Attempt of Sexual Assault in the 2nd Degree, Criminal Attempt at Commercial Sexual Abuse of a Minor, Criminal Attempt of Enticing a Minor, and Criminal Attempt in Promoting a Minor in Obscene Performance.

The arrest was carried out with the assistance of the Special Crimes Unit and members of the Crime Suppression Unit of the Meriden Police Department.
