SPRINGFIELD — Two juveniles were arrested early Thursday after Springfield Police Officers caught them breaking into a Hyundai on King St.

At around 2:00 a.m., officers noticed the suspects attempting to enter the vehicle.

When the juveniles spotted the police, they fled the scene.

Police observed damage to the car and contacted the owner to report the incident.

A follow-up search led officers to locate the two individuals on Lebanon Street shortly after the initial encounter.

During the apprehension, officers found tools typically used in burglaries on one of the suspects.

The suspects, two males aged 15 and 16, were taken into custody.

Their identities are withheld due to their minor status.

In light of the incident, the Springfield Police Department is urging local Hyundai and Kia owners to use highly visible steering wheel locks as a deterrent against thefts and break-ins, which continue to occur at alarming rates.
