Naugatuck police officers shoot armed man at Baummer’s Pond

NAUGATUCK — Two Naugatuck police officers discharged their weapons during a confrontation with an armed man at Baummer’s Pond today, leaving the man injured and receiving medical treatment at a local hospital.

The incident occurred around 9:15 a.m. after police were dispatched to the area following reports of a man wielding a knife.

Upon their arrival, officers encountered the man, which led to the shooting.

The identity of the man has not been released.

Authorities have stated there is no current threat to the public.

The officers involved in the shooting are also receiving medical attention and are reported to be safe.

The Office of the Inspector General, in conjunction with the Connecticut State Police Central District Major Crime, is overseeing the investigation into the shooting.

A media staging area has been established on Mill Street near the entrance of Lantern Park.

Meanwhile, access to Baummer’s Pond has been closed off to the general public as the investigation continues.
