Springfield man arrested for violation of abuse prevention order, firearm possession

SPRINGFIELD — A Springfield man was arrested Thursday evening after violating an abuse prevention order and being found in possession of a firearm, according to Vermont State Police.

At 5:59 p.m., a trooper conducted a vehicle stop on VT Route 11 after witnessing a motor vehicle violation.

The driver, Steven Garceau, 34, was identified and found to be operating a vehicle in violation of an abuse prevention order’s conditions.

Garceau, under the order, is prohibited from operating the plaintiff’s vehicle and possessing firearms.

However, he was discovered to be in possession of a handgun during the stop.

He was taken into custody without incident and processed at the Springfield Police Department.

Garceau was released with a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court Windsor Criminal Division on June 4 at 8 a.m.

The Springfield Police Department assisted the Vermont State Police with the arrest.
