Driver arrested for DUI after crash on US Route 2 in Plainfield

PLAINFIELD — A 21-year-old Montpelier man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence following a single-vehicle crash on US Route 2 Saturday morning.

Vermont State Police responded to the incident near Nasmith Brook Road at 11:44 a.m. where they discovered a vehicle that had veered off the roadway.

The driver, identified as Nicholas Barcomb, initially drifted off the westbound side onto a resident’s lawn before swerving across the road and coming to a stop in a field on the eastbound side, according to the police report.

Barcomb was taken into custody without incident and processed at the Berlin Barracks for DUI.

No injuries were reported at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing, and charges are pending against Barcomb for the negligent operation of a vehicle.
