BOSTON — Boston Police Department’s District D-14 Drug Control Unit arrested a man Thursday evening on multiple firearm and drug charges following a surveillance operation in Brighton.

At about 6:58 p.m., on April 18, officers were conducting an ongoing drug investigation near 1202 Commonwealth Avenue when they observed Jose Reyes Jr., 38, of Fitchburg, allegedly engaged in a street-level drug transaction.

Upon further investigation, a traffic stop was executed at the 300 block of Summit Avenue, leading to the discovery of a Smith & Wesson M&P Shield handgun, a loaded magazine, additional ammunition, and an empty magazine inside the vehicle.

Reyes Jr. faces charges including unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, as well as distribution of class E drugs.

The suspect is slated for arraignment at Brighton District Court.

The vehicle’s operator was released but will receive a court summons.
